Fattet Hummus bi lahm
Fatteh strikes again! I cant get enough of Fatteh in all its forms. I love the different textures, the denseness of the filling (usually chickpeas) and how it contrasts with the crisp bread and creamy yogurt. This one is chickpeas with minced meat. I eat it sometimes as a main, but usually as a snack/or lunch.
Ingredients:
2 tins of chickpeas
3 teaspoons of garam masala
1 teaspoon of chilli flakes (optional)
Pepper and salt to taste
2 cloves of garlic (minced/crushed)·
1 small onion, cut into small cubes.
2 Teaspoons of cumin seeds
Yoghurt (800 grams)
1 teaspoon of dried mint leaves, crushed
Tahini – 4 desert spoons
2 pitta bread /arab style flat bread
Tablespoon of pine nuts (plus or minus some slices of almonds).
Pinch of paprika
Oil for frying
1/4 kg minced lamb
2 small onions
2 teaspoons baharat/garam masala
1 teaspoon cumin seeds
1 large clove garlic
Method
Prepare everything the same was as you would for Fattet hummus, and keep aside. Prepare the meat by frying the cubed onion in oil. When it softens, add the cumin and garlic. Now add the meat and brown. Add the salt and spices and cook for a few minutes. Add 1/2 a cup of water and cook till the water dries out.
To assemble the dish, place the chickpea mixture in a dish. Top this with the meat and then the fried Arabian bread/pitta bread. Pour over the yogurt mixture and top with fried pine nuts and a sprinkle of paprika/cumin powder. Bon appetit!
